PLEASE NOTE:
Although this course has a high degree of relevance to Wales and Northern Ireland, please be aware the focus is primarily on England, and the trainer is England-based.

 

This course provides an excellent grounding in the essentials of Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs). It can be attended on its own or in tandem with Level 2 (Advanced). It is aimed at all those interested in issues of legislation and policy and their relationship to accessible housing. The course focuses on the essentials of Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs) and outlines provisions contained within the grant. It explores how DFGs can be best utilised in order to advocate for disabled clients. 

 

ON COMPLETION OF THIS COURSE YOU SHOULD:

  • understand the primary purposes and function of the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG)
  • be aware of the main eligibility criteria that apply to DFGs (age limits, tenancies and disability)
  • be able to describe DFG Mandatory Criteria and to discuss Preferred Schemes (client led) versus Mandatory Criteria
  • have explored common issues and constraints relating to DFGs
  • understand what constitutes a valid DFG application
  • have overviewed Means Testing (Test of Resources) and Passporting
  • have discussed the role of Discretionary Funding (e.g. top-ups, assistance with moving costs etc) and the Regulatory Reform Order
  • be able to discuss N.A.R.P. and how it applies to DFG adaptation work
  • be aware of DFG timescales and requirements for approval
  • have gained an understanding of Landlord responsibilities in relation to adaptation work
  • be familiar with useful websites and publications pertaining to DFGs
