Ramping for Wheelchair Users: Advanced (Level 2) (UK)

Duration: 2.5 - 3 hours. Live training. Attendance Cert provided (3 CPD hours)

Description

This course builds on the essentials covered in Level 1 and is aimed at those who have already attended Level 1 or who feel they have sufficient knowledge and experience of the areas covered there.

In Level 2 we explore more complex ramping scenarios and also look at how to assess for ramps with side-on approaches and changes of direction. We explore the pros and cons of level/sloped access vs ramped access and how to assess for each. Additional topics include: designing for users with visual impairments; the purpose and use of Ramp Design Briefs (specifications).

In this course we will look at:

  • Assessing for ramps with side-on approaches and changes-of-direction e.g. ramps that “go around the garden”
  • Considerations for communal ramps e.g. at entrances to blocks of flats
  • Design considerations for users with visual impairments
  • Design considerations for handrails
  • Introduction to composite ramps for domestic properties
  • Design briefs for semi-permanent (modular) and permanent ramps and provision of the Viva Access Ramp Design Brief
  • Pros and cons of level & sloped access vs ramped access
  • Review of one or more complex ramping schemes within a group setting
